Feasibility Study into the Provision of Mobile Surgeries for Use on the Kimberley Area Health Authority
The Kimberley Health Region has been pursuing a range of options for the provision of surgery into remote regions around the Kimberley. One such option is to use mobile surgeries to increase the amount of day surgery that can be undertaken in rural and remote communities in this area. The program will allow expert surgical medical and nursing teams to fly in and provide services without the cost of infrastructure. In addition the program has the capacity to enhance the current surgical skills capacity within the region via the associated training program. There is capacity to target specific elective surgical procedures that are currently over 365 and 500 days ie ENT in addition to respond to the increasing demand for colorectal screening as part of the Commonwealth agenda. This mobile surgery programme would link directly to the WA ambulatory care framework. Aspen Medical has recently been selected by Kimberley Area Health Authority to conduct a feasibility study into the provision of mobile surgeries in support of this programme.
