CACI: The Center for Excellence in Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance
Aspen Medical USA continues its provision of innovative healthcare solutions in complex environments through its partnership with CACI and the Center for Excellence in Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance. Aspen Medical USA provides subject matter expertise to The Center for Excellence in Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance’s (COE) mission to educate, train, conduct research, and assist in disaster preparedness, disaster mitigation, disaster management, disaster response, health security, humanitarian assistance, and societal resiliency. Established in 1994, the COE is a Department of Defense (DoD) organization operating with a global mandate.
- Fostering Resiliency Project: Driven by the concept of fostering community and societal resiliency, the COE has developed a common framework for achieving resilience in order to inform what makes an individual household, community and society resilient before, during and after natural and man-made disasters. The framework provides sufficient application methodology to accommodate the diverse variation in geography, culture, and socio-economic features among regions and is intended to support U.S. and foreign humanitarian assistance and development activities with a whole-of-society approach.
- Pandemic Influenza: AMUSA supports the COE’s Pandemic Influenza Program, conducted parallel to the U.S. Pacific Command (PACOM) Pandemic Influenza Pillars and the Theater Security Cooperation Plan for international engagement. The COE builds capacity in pandemic influenza response among countries in the Asia-Pacific region through multilateral conferences and bilateral Pandemic Influenza Training/Coordination Workshops and curriculum development
- Health Systems Strengthening Workshops: AMUSA supports the COE’s workshop in health systems strengthening that identify critical gaps in current regional healthcare systems and create a framework for action to address opportunities and weaknesses to improve the regional performance of health systems.
- Epidemic and Pandemic Threats Workshops: AMUSA supports the COE with conducting workshops that provide valuable training on pandemic threats and emerging infectious diseases. The workshop presents best practices and cutting edge strategies in emerging and epidemic diseases, covering such areas as HIV/AIDS, Dengue Fever, Malaria, Diarrheal Diseases, and Diseases that are currently threatening the Asia-Pacific region.
- Health Sector Coordination Strategies: AMUSA supports the COE through the development of a health sector coordination strategy in order to provide recommendations to coordinate U.S. Government program dollars in developing countries and maximize the strategic benefit of these contributions on the overall health sector.
- Training and Education of civil and military personnel in health, public health, and development issues in disaster management and humanitarian assistance
- Development of partnerships with domestic and international organizations involved in disaster management, humanitarian assistance, and resiliency
