Aspen Medical Supports Mountain Bike and Trials World Championships

Aspen Medical today completed its support of the 2009 Union Cyclist Internationale (UCI) Mountain Bike and Trials World Championships in Canberra at the Stromlo Forest Park. The event which ran from 1 to 6 September 2009 saw Australia’s and the world’s best compete at an international level.

Aspen Medical’s Managing Director Glenn Keys said "Aspen Medical is pleased and proud to be able to support the 2009 UCI Mountain Bike and Trials World Championships held in Canberra, Australia. This is a major sporting event with elite athletes competing in a sport which is not only exciting to watch but represents a big challenge in providing immediate assistance in the event of a serious injury. No matter how careful a participant is there will be the occasion when training and protective equipment aren’t enough."

Aspen’s medical team supported the entire activity from start to finish. With hundreds of competitors and over 40,000 spectators, the Aspen Medical response team were busy making sure the event ran smoothly, even when medical support was required.

Mr. Keys concluded by saying "It was great for our staff to know that the experience and skills they have developed supporting Australians overseas or in remote Australia can be utilised to support the elite athletes of the 2009 UCI Mountain Bike and Trials World Championships. It was also great for all our staff to know that we were supporting such a high profile international event here in Canberra.
