Aspen Medical Supports the Tour de Timor
Aspen Medical today completed it is support of the inaugural Tour de Timor, held over the 24th – 28th August 2009 in Timor Leste. The inaugural 450 kilometre 5day race began on Monday 24 August 2009 in Dili, the nation’s capital. Riders faced climbs of up to 2 kilometres in the world’s toughest and most beautiful terrain. Each evening at the end of that stage riders were hosted by thousands of locals from the communities along the route.
Aspen Medical’s Managing Director Glenn Keys said "We have been involved in Timor Leste since 2006 and we understand the challenges of providing health care in the country. We saw the Tour de Timor as an excellent opportunity to support a community event."
The race is a long standing dream of President Ramos Horta, who stated "The Tour de Timor will be a mixture of elite international athletes who will be competing fiercely for the top places of this event and many other riders who will be engaged in the experience with unforgettable memories that they will gain from meeting the people of Timor-Leste as they explore the beautiful scenery of this country."
Aspen Medical's medical team, consisting of intensive care paramedics and resuscitation ambulances, supported the entire gruelling activity from start to finish. The team treated dozens of participants covering a range of needs, from skin abrasions to more significant injuries. Mr Keys concluded by saying "The ability to provide the highest quality health care to people and organisations is the cornerstone of what we achieve at Aspen Medical each and every day for our clients. Whether it is a team of paramedics all the way through to a complete hospital; Aspen Medical is able to deliver the best in health care regardless of the location or duration."
