Elective Surgery Programme in South Australia

Aspen Medical today confirmed that it has been contracted by the South Australian Health Department (SA Health) to perform approximately 210 elective surgery procedures

as part of the State/Commonwealth campaign to get surgery to patients on the long term waiting list.

Aspen Medical’s Managing Director, Glenn Keys said “We are pleased to be able to assist South Australian Health in reducing their waiting list. We have a great team of people ready and willing to assist the community through this contract.”

Aspen Mehas experience in working with state health departments to address short to medium term requirements. In March this year Aspen Medical completed a contract for Queensland Health to restore the operations of the Caboolture Emergency Department.

The Hon John Hill - Minister for Health said “This contract will help clear a backlog of overdue cases, allowing surgeons and hospitals to better manage the waiting times and provide better outcomes for patients.”

“This contract will reinforce the hospital’s future role in the state’s public health system, demonstrating its ability to undertake more elective procedures as the hospital’s profile changes to better meet the needs of its local population.”

The contract will be mostly urology and plastics procedures at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and the operations are likely to take place over the next four months. Mr. Keys concluded by saying “We look forward to working with South Australian Health and the QEH staff in the coming months on this exciting programme that will benefit South Australian patients on waiting lists.”
